Reach out and Inspire someone this Chanukah

Chanukah – Jewish Pride
5 Easy Ways to Reach Out

Chanukah Party Ideas

1. Get your children involved – kids win the hearts in a way that we adults often cannot. Whether it is getting them to sing, say a dvar Torah or answer questions about Chanukah - all are good. Here are some Chanukah stories for kids also which have great questions at the end that anyone would benefit from discussing… as well as a Chanukah quiz:

Here are coloring pages for kids if your friends have kids (or even if you have your own!): http://www.aish.com/chanukahfamily/chanukahfamilydefault/Coloring_Pages_.asp

2. Make sure your guests feel comfortable and that you are not doing anything that will embarrass them – e.g. asking them questions they do not know the answers to!

3. If you do have some kind of Chanukah gift to give them – that would be great – everyone likes a gift!

4. Make sure that if you are singing Ma’oz tsur and haneros halalu that you have a transliteration for them. Artscoll has (or see below).

5. You can play dreidel and explain to them why it was done. Included in the article below is an explanation, as well as giving transliterations for the blessings etc www.aish.com/chanukahguide/chanukahguidedefault/Chanukah_Primer.asp#customs

6. Give your guests personal attention as well. Make sure you get to know how they are doing, what’s new in their lives, and if there’s any way you can be of help to them. Listening, caring and being a true friend is the greatest path to bringing someone closer to yiddishkeit.

7. Read some more of the aish.com articles that explain the customs of Chanukah – a short but meaningful dvar Torah that they can relate to can touch someone. Long divrei Torah that they do not relate to do not.
